# download, untar and install Perl 5.8.8
wget http://layer1.cpanel.net/perl588installer.tar.gz
tar xfz perl588installer.tar.gz
cd perl588installer
./install

# update server software and perl modules
/scripts/upcp
/scripts/checkperlmodules

# done?
perl -v
This is perl, v5.8.8
