Post subject: Confusion on the latest releases

I have installed 9.0.1.1

I never got around to installing 9.0.2 becuase I'm still running Dragonfly on non-production site.

I looked today and 9.0.3 is released. With no reference to 9.0.2

My questions are:

1) Can you go straight from 9.0.1.1 to 9.0.3? This also would apply to any future releases. Can you jump minor releases?

2) Is it an error to not list 9.0.2 in the downloads?

Thanks! Just wanted to set these things striaght for myself and anyone else that may have questions on the way things are released and updated.

i just went from 9.0rc1 to 9.0.3 on a local test site this morning, and the installer took care of everything.. i dont suspect it would be diffrent upgrading from 9.0.1.1 to 9.0.3 but in the future going from 9.0.x to 9.1 or 9.2 etc is a very good question

hope that helped atleast a little

The devs here have always made it so one upgrde does it all, you've never needed to do it incrementally. I don't see that changing either Smile

Question:

To upgrade a 9.0 installation to a newer version, all I need to do is get the new version's install folder , put that into the root, and use the original install.php file, and then go to the install.php in a browser right?

And 8x to 9x would be the same as well?

Thanks

Would love to get all sites up to the new version.

8.x => 9.x is a lot more work since blocks, modules and themes are NOT compatible.

9.x => 9.y just upload everything and go to install.php

Between 9.0 and 9.1 there are slight differences THEME wise as explained at dragonflycms.com/Wiki/id=19.html

you could upgrade from 8.1 to 9.0.3 if you wanted and anywhere in between.

the installer and upgrade file is the best among any cms. want to upgrade from mambo? np. there are so many ways to switch to dragonfly from other cms's which is one of the hundreds of reasons why i'll always recommend df.

Is there a guide for this?

I *thought* 8x themes weren't compatible with 9x!! someone was trying to tell me they *were* in this thread:
www.cpgnuke.com/Forums...=9083.html
I'll direct them to THIS thread that confirms my recollection that 8x themes do NOT work in Dragonfly.

Man, this SO did not work for me the two times I tried it. I'd made copies of my database just in case so I was able to easily flip the sites back, but it didn't seem to like a few things.

As I recall it wasn't theme based - but db and mailfile based, but don't quote me on that as I'm not fully sure, but I *do* remember that it was definitely NOT the theme causing the errors.

One reason why I thought maybe my mistake was in uploading over all the files in the directories and maybe I just needed to do the install file instead.

uploading "everything" includes the 9.x themes. lets say you have 8.x cpgnuke theme in /themes/cpgnuke. well when you upload the latest version it will overwrite it because the new cpgnuketheme is named the same yet works for 9.x Smile

8.x themes will not work, nor modules, nor phpnuke themes or blocks or modules. they might appear to work but the coding is so different that some things might show up but the functionality will not be there.

if you choose to do the overwrite method (one which I do not personally recommend) ... be sure to remove the 'dead' files as listed in the wiki.

Of course.

I uploaded *every* file. I've never *tried* or even considered using 8x themes with 9x because before 9x was ever released everyone warned us time and time again, that the themes, blocks, and modules would NOT work. And again, the error was NOT theme based anyway.

I'm just glad I'm anal enough to not trust to do that overwrite upgrade on a live site without testing it a few times first. Cuz it killed me on the two sites I tried that with.

I think I'd rather install a fresh new 9x and then export the data into it - and not even try to upgrade the files over the existing files.

It failed miserably for me the two times I tried it.

Hmmm in the wiki?

Don't think I'm familiar with that!

Post subject: Re: Confusion on the latest releases

Will there ever be any plans for fix packs or the like to be released at the same time. Basically a package of all files changed since the last release.

I only ask because if for some reason I've modified a non-template file it would be a pain to upgrade becasue I just can't overwrite everyfile. I'm not sure this would be the case because I haven't moved any of the ste over but for instance right now in various modules I've removed certain parts of functions that show th date or other things that I may not want to display.

Just curious
