#1: PHPBB 3 Author: BadCO, Posted: Sat May 26, 2007 12:23 pm ---- I know that CPGBB is now significantly different from PHPBB2 and has a different development route. Having said that PHPBB3 is looking like a seriously impressive piece of software and I was wondering whether there were any plans to see if it could be integrated with DF?
#2: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: CatchImran, Location: IndiaPosted: Sat May 26, 2007 3:12 pm ---- Good one BadCO. I too would like to see an upgrade. Waiting eagerly for a reply from the developers.
#3: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: Rayvenhaus, Location: Kirkland, WAPosted: Sat May 26, 2007 3:18 pm ---- The current "upgrade" for Forums is ForumsPro. And we are including a lot of enhancements at Myndworx Asylum.
#4: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: CatchImran, Location: IndiaPosted: Sat May 26, 2007 4:11 pm ---- Good to hear that Rayvenhaus. I use Forums Pro and it simply means that my users are surely going to have a great time in a few days from now! Looking forward to it. Thanks for the info.
#5: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: BadCO, Posted: Sat May 26, 2007 5:14 pm ---- With all due respect to the guys at ForumsPro - the lack of support for searches in large forums means that it is not suitable for our needs.
#6: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: Rayvenhaus, Location: Kirkland, WAPosted: Sat May 26, 2007 6:01 pm ---- With all due respect to Large Community Sites everywhere, ForumsPro, in the very post you linked to, has indicated that we are upgrading the search on ForumsPro. I expoect this to be done Real Soon (tm)
#7: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: BadCO, Posted: Sun May 27, 2007 11:23 am ---- In that case we'll look forward to testing it again! Would you like a copy of our database so that you can have something to work with/test against?
#8: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: sarah, Posted: Sun May 27, 2007 11:55 am ---- Very much so. I have one that is somewhere around 1/10 the size of yours, which does have a noticable difference between cpgbb and fpro, but it would be a great help.
#9: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: BadCO, Posted: Sun May 27, 2007 12:20 pm ---- OK - we'll get one sorted for you and drop you the link by PM.
#10: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: NanoCaiordo, Location: Melbourne, AUPosted: Sun May 27, 2007 1:55 pm ---- BadCO I've just tested the Forums search on your site and searched for "how fast is searching in this forum" ... it took 2.5 seconds to search and display the results on 1.200.000+ posts (441 pages and 11014 matches) and i wouldn't imagine how big are bbwords tables, I don't think it's slow. Is the search performing better after we fixed it?
#11: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: BadCO, Posted: Sun May 27, 2007 2:21 pm ---- To be honest it really depends on the time of day - needless to say Sunday is pretty quiet. Try it on a Tues or Weds at approx 14-1500 GMT!
We've also just moved the database onto a much faster dedicated server ....
PE2950 Quad-Core Xeon E5310 1.6GHz/2x4MB 1066FSB
Riser with PCI Express Support (2x PCIe x8 slots; 1x PCIe x4 slot)
4GB FB 667MHz Memory (4x1GB dual rank DIMMs)
Additional Quad-Core Xeon E5310 1.6GHz/2x4MB 1066FSB processor
2x 73GB SAS (15,000rpm) 3.5 inch Hard Drive
3x 146GB SAS (10,000rpm) 3.5 inch Hard Drive
A snip at £3000 but at least we only have to worry about the Apache server at the moment ......
#12: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: BadCO, Posted: Sun May 27, 2007 2:23 pm ---- P.S The ARRSE MySQL database is the only thing that server is used for ..... everything else is turned off!
#13: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: CatchImran, Location: IndiaPosted: Sun May 27, 2007 2:57 pm ---- How big is it by the way? Sheer curiosity you see BadCO. And do you own the website?
#14: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: BadCO, Posted: Sun May 27, 2007 3:36 pm ---- The SQL dump is 1.3G (not zipped) and the actual database directory is 1.7G.
Yes we own it
#15: Re: PHPBB 3 Author: CatchImran, Location: IndiaPosted: Sun May 27, 2007 3:51 pm ---- Oops 1.3 GBs. That sure is huge dude! A nightmare too, isn't it?
