Hey Everybody!

I have been a Dragonfly user for almost 2 years now and check the forums almost daily for updates...

I have gotten feeling lately that Dragonfly is past it's prime. I am seriously considering moving onto Joomla. The new version looks great and seems to be a very powerfull CMS. What amazes me the most is the community over there and the amount of cool well programmed addons is unbelievable.

Whats are your thoughts on Joomla? Or are there people out there that see a future for Dragonfly?

I love joomla
I love the DF CMS

But I use joomla for the flexibility and addons. It is sooooooo easy and simple once you get the hang of it. And there is so much you can do with it right out of the box.

I will stick the this cms, the code, but will always keep an open mind to other powerful cms's out there. my 2 cents worth

I guess the lack of response to this topic kind of speaks for itself. Sad! I was hoping to get some input or insight into why people should stick to DF.

I still use DF because I'm a developer and I know the DF "API" quite well. That's not to say other CMS's don't have better API's, I'm just sticking to what I know for now because I'm too lazy to learn something else Wink

Yes, I thought this thread (and bigerns replies) were simply trolls. Too bad as moderators we cannot 'rate' articles other than using ye old ranking system.

I either flame or ignore trolls, so here I'll just ignore them.

Hey if you want to do whatever, then fine it's your life. I'm just not seeing how this thread is positive to the community in any sense? If you take offence to having your posts called trolls then perhaps we should take about that.

So please don't bring my attitude into this. I didn't come back here to be negative about Dragonfly, I came back to help support its latest push.

What I consider a problem is community fracturing which I see being a big reason for these trolls. Sorry, I call em as I see em. FUD is just FUD for trolls Wink

Anyone can 'think' the community is dying, but really it's become rejuvenated recently.

Are there more web sites running it? Probably. Are some sights no longer using it or decided it's crap and not used it? Probably.

As for attitude towards the community, I really think your on a limb on this one Bigern75. There are always 'lemons' in any community and finding them and getting them to move on is the tough part. Since last I checked we volunteered for this, if for some reason the 'community' thinks they have one of these they can quite easily step up and remove them from the role. Users on the other hand can really do whatever they want provided they don't break any rules as they have less demanded from them.

I think you've done a great deal for the community, but perhaps your of the opinion that it has to move on, perhaps to dfaddons. Perhaps you think your contributions are more valid than others. Regardless, what you do is appreciated but don't forget everyone else.

I don't see the community getting weaker, but perhaps some folks need to take a step back so the rest can take a step forward. Perhaps your not seeing it that way?

The real members of this community are the ones who came here looking for a great cms, found a great cms, used this cms and then turnedd around and gave back to the cms. Most people just come, get it, and leave. Only time they come back is to get updates. That is probably the biggest set back DF has. To many takers not enough givers. IMHO

I do 100% agree with all DF staff comments.

As DragonflyCMS staff, my opinion shouldn't even be considered because I do of course 'work' here, but I'll still try.

Is Dragonfly still worth while? ... Yes! ... Why?

It does use a great template system, a great database layer, has many themes and modules, community is getting healthier, support questions are answered promptly, developers are constantly working on the code improving it and many more reasons.

DF still has an old programming style and it does suffer from it. We are trying to move to an OOP coding style without breaking modules and themes, which is a hard way and really slows us down.
To go faster we could change things around, breaking all modules and themes, but no one wants this.

However, Dragonfly does think advanced, always did and always will.
As a developer I might tell you that in future you will be able to upgrade core and ANY 3rd party modules with just one click! The core is ready to handle this but modules and 3rd party developers are not yet.

Yes, DragonflyCMS is still worth while.
Yes, DragonflyCMS will always be a powerful, secure and fast CMS.

"Stuck in the mud" times are gone. DragonflyCMS is flying back again.
