Hi all;

Hopefully this is the right place for this one! Smile

I would like to block images from certain URL's in my forums. It seems some of my users are getting smiley happy and it's just getting out of hand. Is there any way that I can block smilies from smiliecentral.com, for example?

Oh, and I don't mean by hacking things up... I can do that no problem. I am just curious if there is a way to do it with a stock DF install.

could just ask them not to do it and suspend them if they do.

Would adding smileycentral to the word censor list work?

djdevon3 -> thought of that one! Wink It's just that doing it that way is a PITA and requires me to spend more time than I want (human interface), scanning through posts, warning people and suspending them.

t310s -> thought of that one too, late last night watchin TV, after I posted this. Haven't tried it yet, but it may do the trick.

I have also though about playing with .htaccess. I'm not great at that sorta thing, so I'll probably have to trial and error it. Possibly a rewrite rule. But that'll only work in the event LEO is being used.

Thanks for the suggestions!

If you set it as a word sensor as t310s suggested, then it will block the image.

ah neat trick. it will still block words even if in bbcode or html tags? that's genius.

Yeah, really nice. I've never tried html tags .. I know bbcode for sure though.

Nope, the word censor doesn't check HTML tags... tried that this morning! Smile

I did have it work once with .htaccess... but it hasn't since. Dunno what I did... but I can't replicate it now! Smile

If I figure it out, I'll let you know!

Just a thought, are you using config.php or the inbuilt forum censor check?

The code in viewtopic implies it should check okay, including html tags, so I did some tests using the forum censor and it seems to do the job Smile

Most people use bbcode anyway, over html tags.. Just disable the <img> tag in html, that way they have to use bbcode.

I didn't even think of the $CensorList in config! Smile

I was trying to use the forums censor check, but it still doesn't appear to work for me. I have 'smileycentral' set in both the config $CensorList and the forums word censoring, but neither appear to filter the word. This is what I'm trying to get rid of --> www.kylestubbins.com/F...1.html#301 (some or my users abuse this service, making posts difficult to read).

jkite -> yeah, that's an easy solution (actually, I'm more concerned with the img tag... I don't care if they link back, just no 'hotlinking images'). However, this particular site has been up for just over 3 years. When we started, there was no forums even in an CMS, nevermind the ability to attach files. Most of my users are familiar with and use html and therefor we have alot of old html in the forums. I have gotten most to use bbcode now, but for archive purposes, need to leave the a/img tag on -- unless I want to go through something like 80,000 posts and change all the tags! (We set the img src to thumbnail size and use a to link to the full size image.) This just may turn out to be the way to go though.

Thanks again for your suggestions. It's not an easy answer to a specific problem! Smile
