Post subject: Re: Calendar - Dragonfly

Hey guys. For those of you who don't know me, I am the creator of TotalCalendar found at sweetphp.com. I just figured I'd let you all know about the new lottery system on our site. Basically I plan to run a lottery (probably 1 every week or so) for all of my site members. The winner will be able to choose any one of our commercial products for a prize. There is currently a lottery going on for the next 14 days (this is a two week long lottery because I'm still testing out a few parts of it while it runs), that any members prior to yesterday have a chance at winning. After one lottery ends, another will begin. If you would like a chance to win after this lottery is over, just register on our site. It may not be the best odds in the world, but at least it won't cost you a thing. If enough people are interested, I may tie up the loose ends of the lottery system and release it as a free module (although I'm not sure how many people would be interested). I tried to make it a little more fun than just choosing a random winner at the end of the lottery period. Basically it will begin with all current members of the site having a chance to win, then each day that goes by, it will eliminate a certain number of players until the last day when there is only one player left (the winner). It displays all members that are currently still in the running for the lottery winning, so it allows members to check daily to see if their name is still in the possible winners list. Anyone think they would have a use for a module like this?

Me beeing a game clan leader yea there is a use in the Clan sector.

Like we could give away 20,000 gp in game to the winner of the lotery.

Can it be done to use a certain members group instead of all members? because that way we can resrict who is in the running so only the team can win.

Right now, the only version I have uses all members. But I'm sure this would not be too difficult to add this option.

I guess some of you may be looking for an update as to how it's developing. I would like to report that it's almost done, but I am still adding in a couple things before I release it. It shouldn't be too much longer though.

docmattman: does the script take into account if the member has visited the site in awhile? It would be cool to have a "check in" so you have to click a link and the name is added to the list, or it just checks the database for who has visited in the last month or something. on my site I have a lot of inactive users so it would be most likely that one of them would be chosen, which isn't fair to the regular visitors. thanks!

Tsykoduk and I were discussing this one the other day and we came to the same conclusion. It would be nice to be able to set something like users who have logged in during the past 30 days.

Nothing like that is currently built-in to what I have so far. But I'll do my best to work in some options like this.

Wow, this sounds so awesome! I love this, we have done lotteries in the past, but in a much less exciting and official manner. We would love to have something like this, especially if you implement the groups suggestions, and the 30-day-login thing. Can't wait!

WOW, Just saw this.

The option for members logged in within the last 30 days is a fantastic idea.

I'm in Big grin
