So I've spent some time doing some searching and I'm still pretty confused. Here are my current questions:
Is there suppose to be an admin function that actually allows you to ADD banners or clients? I know you can view them under "linking->banners" but you can only view and edit, not actually add.
What is the "activate banner system" actually do on main settings->misc? How does this relate to the seperate our sponsors module?
Can any user submit banners by simply using the "our sponsors" module?
TIA

Answer 1. Yes!
Answer 2. It activate your Banner System. But in order for it to show you will need to add banner(s).
Answer 3. Yes, and you will have to approve it before it will be shown.

there is no current way for admins to add banners, just go to yoursite.com/Our_Sponsors.html and do it like a regular user, then you have to approve it in admin.
Activate banner system turns on banners- if you don't have it on then no banners will display even if theyre activated
yes any user can submit banners through the module

Thanks, that's what I figured.

Out of curiosity what is the purpose of this? It deactives the variables being passed from the our sponsors module?

That's what I figured. I made it so only "administrators" can access the module "our sponsors". This should make it so only if you are logged in as admin you can add banners right?
Thanks for the responses!

the purpose is so you dont have to go into the code and remove the banner code to remove them, you can switch it on and off in admin. quite convenient
yes then only admins can add banners

Fair enough. Doesn't seem hard to just remove it from the template or deactivate the module, but I'll never complain about extra functionality. Well... Almost never. Thanks again for responding.

Next question:
Is there a way to put a banner in both a block and in a template without having to duplicate the banner to both "normal" and "Banner" types?
DF doesn't seem to have any ability to put php code into blocks (which makes sense) and I don't see a way to add "block" banners into a template. The documentation mentions:
| Code:: |
'S_BANNER' => ($banners) ? viewbanner() : '',
|
Will this fetch block banners as well as normal banners?

im a little confused here, I think what youre saying is that you want to set one banner to display in both the regular banner, and a block. if thats the case then no, you have to set it up twice, one set to normal, banner, and one set to block, banner

For a much more flexible system, I highly recommend phpAdsNew. I've just integrated it to manage a block and banner and it worked like a charm. Very powerful package for a webmaster interested in advertizing.

Yes there is. First you activate your banner in the admin area. And go to Admin > Blocks and add Advertising Block.
Then it will show Block Banner and Regular Banner on top by the header

Ronin - is there a way to have the coders from phpAdsNew to write it to be a module for Dragonfly? Or is there plans for expanding the current advertising system? Because right now Adsense and equivalent code can't be added.

Oh, and another question: how does the "Our Sponsors" module work? Where does it place banner ads? Are they collected in one place, or set somewhere upon the site? Can someone show me an example of it in use?
I am liking what i see of Pro_news, though. Let me see if I can get it working.

I have the "Our Sponsors" mod working on three of my sites:
www.ehpdesigns.com
www.nolzcountry.com
www.intothemind.com
The ad is placed based on the location specified in the theme you use. It can place either text or image ads, with various allotments for number of hits, etc.
