yes and we could get our website content printed on news paper with little black dots and delivered door to door by letterbox droppers, that would solve all these problems entirely once and for all
while i would be one of the first to choose functionality over form, the internet is primarily a visual medium and i love all the diverse graphics and individual variation you see on it, it lets us all be individuals in a faceless medium. viva la differance!
Memphis i know your point about transparency and light and dark backgrounds, and thank you for adding another two sets of graphics i now need to create to the two i already need to make things look good in most browsers
no way am i making 4 sets of everything to try to suit everyone, and neither should i have to. browser compatibility should not be my concern or issue, but unfortunately it has to be all because some boffins in corporate management wont agree to an indusrty standard for displaying them
simply, if you create images with transparent alpha channels then you will have issues with some current browsers, on light or dark backgrounds, or if you print the images and hold them up in direct sunlight with your tongue hanging out the left side of your mouth on the eve of the full moon second sunday in june every tenth year. this is not my fault, or the image authors fault, its the browsers fault so petition the browser authors to fix their inadequate software
alternately create all your site images on neutral backgrounds in GIMP XCF format and tell the webmasters who install them customise their own, i can offer image background colour mods and sets of jpg's that look good in all browsers at reasonable rates
