Post subject: Forum topic display incorrectly

Hi all,

Hope someone would kindly help me out, I have tried searching through other posts but can't find anything posts regarding this weird problem I'm having.

Whenever I post in the forum, all the post texts seem to be displaying correctly, it even showed up correctly via the forum scroll module. But as soon as I click into any particular topic to read, the texts in the Title of the forum display weird, funny characters, however, the post body texts are still readable correctly without problems.

So I don't know the reason why that the text appearing differently like that. Is there any fix for it? or has anyone experiencing this same problem as I am? Please, I need your help. Sad

Thanks advance.

I found this utf8_encode() function from other posts, which just might be resolving the issue if somebody can point out which file & where exactly I should be editing for the Subject posting line of the forum is.

Please helpppp me, thanks Crying or Very sad

@vinhkhang_melb I browsed your site with mozilla and could not find an instance where the topic title is not displaying correctly, can you give us a link to the specific page where this occurs?

Hi akuma,

Try one of this topic link: Click here

I have asked a number of people accessing this same page, they all said seeing square boxes like this to some characters displaying only on the Subject line of the topic but not any elsewhere. I know it sounds weird, but from what I understand, my system does have the supplemental language support installed from the control panel > Regional & language options > language. I don't see such problem exists, but others didn't install that language support, they see characters. But it only appeared in the Subject line of the topic.

So I'm pretty quite dumbfounded, any ideas akuma?

I have see a display issue where on a system the page title does not display utf correctly while the rest of the page does and i can only think that is is a m$ bug... and their workaround is to install the lang pack...

Same here Nano, you won't see the square chars if you had the Asian language installed on your system. But there are many others don't have the Asian language supplementary support installed by default.

I have no issues with it either, but I do have complaints from other users who said they can't read the Subject title due to the incorrect encoding. But somehow, it only messes up in the Subject line of the forum and not affect anywhere else of the website.

Do you happen to know the file & which particular section where the Subject line might be? I might like to have a crack at it by putting the utf8_encode() to that line and hoping to resolve this weird issue. Smile

Your topictitle is fine in Firefox, in IE it is not.

BUT
the pagetitle that the browser shows has boxes instead of arrows both in Firefox and IE. Not just your site, dragonflycms.org, as well.

Favorites (IE) has boxes with dragonflycms.org but not with your site.

I'm running XP Pro/IE English with Dutch as my default language and no Asian pack.

You might try
Code::
Fix_Quotes($topictitle,1,1)
rather than utf8_encode in the file modules/forums/viewtopic.php to see if that helps?

hi akuma,

Frankly, I'm not really a PHP guru, I don't know exactly where to insert that particular code. Would you please tell me where exactly I should modify the file, I'm very much appreciated. Embarassed

line 418 of modules/Forums/viewtopic.php

find
PHP:
$page_title = $forum_topic_data['cat_title'].' '._BC_DELIM.' '.$forum_name.' '._BC_DELIM.' '. $topic_title;
replace with
PHP:
$page_title = $forum_topic_data['cat_title'].' '._BC_DELIM.' '.$forum_name.' '._BC_DELIM.' '. $topic_title;
$page_title = Fix_Quotes($page_title,1,1);

This really should not be needed if a user has the correct languages install of if windows supported utf-8 properly but may be a workaround for you.... let me know if it helps.
