Post subject: Adding Gmail?

Any chance GMAIL (now that it has chat options) can be added to the profile information in "My Account" for this community.

You know how there are the quick buttons below for yahoo, msn, aol.

gmail has chat now? we're going to have to figure out some other way to list those buttons. it's already too full. I'd prefer just 1 single button called "My Contact Info" or something like that which takes you into their account and lists all the stuff. Because having all those buttons and new ones continually is seriously going to make things ugly fast.

I mean honestly how many times do you actually look at someone's profile now. Doing it the above way would force people to check them out and would even save on page gens and bandwidth. Sounds like a win/win situation to me.

Eventually I would like to see that area for things like "My Gallery" "My Downloads" "My Whatever" and all of the really personal things that people want others to readily see per each community. By replacing all the contact info with a single button you could open up many other doors for expansion of better features in the core.

Post subject: Re: Adding Gmail?

There reason I ask, I use my gmail account exclusively for my forums.
I have joined so many forums I have decided to assign them their very own email account. (Helps me keep track of them without cluttering my other accounts)

My MSN account is used for Buisness and my Yahoo, well, eventually going to get rid of it. (Hate bloat-ware).

Besides with Yahoo every one blocks ya or goes in invisable mode anymore whats the point.

So back to the GMAIL option, I would love to include this community in my GMAIL.

Please consider it. Kiss

Great suggestion. --- But that seems like it may take longer to create then adding another button.
(Another "bounty" project)

And I would really like to transfer this community to my gmail account.

If its already cluttered with options how about a vote to eliminate one of the others and replacing it with gmail? One that is not used often.

Like ICQ? (for example: don't get excited ICQ users). lol

I think that's been discussed. So far nothing ever happens when people discuss those buttons so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

It may have been discussed before, but to tell me not to get my hopes up, is to tell me not have suggestions, ideas... to be afraid to except no answer as as an answer.

Just because I can not physically change things on this website doesn't mean the people who opened this section of the forum do not want to hear my ideas and suggestions.

hurt....

I know its been talked about before. But at least adding google talk to your account and 1 button that goes to your account from the forums would be the best. A bunch of buttons would up the page gen time. But I would love to see google talk added.

and skype and xfire and google talk and the list will continue to grow. i didn't mean not to make suggestions melinda. i would never think about telling someone not to speak their mind. you've taken my words way out of context. i'm just saying it's taken dragonfly a long time to update certain things and the contact buttons are one of them.

but, as its been talked about before, 1 button for Profile would be best if and when all the other IM's are added. the page gen times for the forums would be faster with just 1 ot 2 buttons and have all the IM and email buttons in your profile
I would still love to see gtalk added

Post subject: Re: Adding Gmail?

Add a custom field in the members config section named user_gmail. Then, open modules/Forums/viewtopic.php and change line 290 from:
PHP:
$sql = "SELECT u.username, u.user_id, u.user_posts, u.user_from, u.user_website, u.user_email, u.user_icq, u.user_aim, u.user_yim, u.user_regdate, u.user_msnm, u.user_viewemail, u.user_rank, u.user_sig, u.user_sig_bbcode_uid, u.user_avatar, u.user_avatar_type, u.user_allowavatar, u.user_allowsmile, u.server_specs, u.bio, u.user_timezone, u.user_occ, u.user_interests, p.*, pt.post_text, pt.post_subject, pt.bbcode_uid";

to:
PHP:
$sql = "SELECT u.username, u.user_id, u.user_posts, u.user_from, u.user_website, u.user_email, u.user_icq, u.user_aim, u.user_yim, u.user_regdate, u.user_msnm, u.user_gmail, u.user_viewemail, u.user_rank, u.user_sig, u.user_sig_bbcode_uid, u.user_avatar, u.user_avatar_type, u.user_allowavatar, u.user_allowsmile, u.server_specs, u.bio, u.user_timezone, u.user_occ, u.user_interests, p.*, pt.post_text, pt.post_subject, pt.bbcode_uid";

Change line 292 from:
PHP:
$sql = "SELECT u.username, u.user_id, u.user_posts, u.user_from, u.user_website, u.user_email, u.user_icq, u.user_aim, u.user_yim, u.user_regdate, u.user_msnm, u.user_viewemail, u.user_rank, u.user_sig, u.user_sig_bbcode_uid, u.user_avatar, u.user_avatar_type, u.user_allowavatar, u.user_allowsmile, u.bio, u.user_timezone, u.user_occ, u.user_interests, p.*, pt.post_text, pt.post_subject, pt.bbcode_uid";

to:
PHP:
$sql = "SELECT u.username, u.user_id, u.user_posts, u.user_from, u.user_website, u.user_email, u.user_icq, u.user_aim, u.user_yim, u.user_regdate, u.user_msnm, u.user_gmail, u.user_viewemail, u.user_rank, u.user_sig, u.user_sig_bbcode_uid, u.user_avatar, u.user_avatar_type, u.user_allowavatar, u.user_allowsmile, u.bio, u.user_timezone, u.user_occ, u.user_interests, p.*, pt.post_text, pt.post_subject, pt.bbcode_uid";

After line 866, add the following:
PHP:

Then, add the following around line 1054-1058:
PHP:
'GMAIL_IMG' => $gmail_img,
'GMAIL' => $gmail,

You'll also need to add the image somewhere and edit your themes/YOUR_THEME/template/forums/images.cfg file to include it. Add to your forums language file (language/your_language/forums.php) a definition for 'GMAIL'. Then, just add "{postrow.GMAIL_IMG}" or "{postrow.GMAIL}" to line 161 of themes/YOUR_THEME/template/forums/viewtopic_body.html.

How your site handles the extra buttons is a theming issue.

offtopic: that's really great biggles. i know it was posted somewhere before when someone wanted to add a skype button. i think mel's post was to have it included in the core. your post helps everyone out a lot though. i'm going to go see if i can add an xfire button for my Legendary theme. Smile

offtopic: Forums Pro is currently at v1.0.0.3 and is working on replacing the contact buttons at the bottom of each post with a reworked contact system.
