Post subject: Smooth Upgrade

I just thought that I would.

I upgraded my live site to 9.1.1 last night from 9.0.6.1. That was almost completely without any events, besides the referer table having to be empty. After that, it upgraded in around a minute.

Harder was upgrading ForumsPro, and that's because I was the only guinea pig running ForumsPro 1.0.0.0 as 'Forums', that I know of. I finally figured out everything I needed to do, and upgraded everything. Seems to be working fine.

100k + forum posts
Whole database 200mb

Just saying!

You're right - they don't - Thank You.

(Nano even has the referer issue covered in the snapshot, soon to be 9.1.1.1)

Did I mention I'm on a really cheap shared host? Anyone doing a reverse whois could see how many pr0n sites are on the same server as me.

But my pages still load faster than our biggest competitors with their own servers. LOL.

Not only the referer isssue have been covered but even bbword_list. Adding a primary or unique while upgrading or even installing a module will be done without errors. It will simply delete the duplicate entry.

add primary key query => error => delete duplicate data => add primary key => error => delete duplicate data => add primary key => error .... until all duplicates are gone.

Upgraded one of my sites (ronin-tech.com) from 9.0.6.1 to latest cvs. All I can say is thank god for cvs (or any good version control system). Had a couple of merge conflicts that were easy to sort out and the rest merged perfectly. After that I browsed to install.php and no problems whatsoever.

Kudos to all involved, especially Nano for all his hard work on this release!

Yeah, I'm still psyching myself up for that one. Gonna have to download it to my home server which will take a while, get it working there, then re-upload it at night. Praying

By the way, my members who use it really love dfmaps. Which by the way was upgraded from MemGooMaps and also went totally smooth.

Yes I am. Part of the motivation to even upgrade to 9.1.1 was to get the new features in ForumsPro 2. And also to prove that I could, lol.

I was using ForumsPro 1 in the "Forums" directory, which I was not supposed to. Now version 2 supports doing that. But since I was doing it subversively in ForumsPro 1 it created all kinds of nifty upgrade drama! Smile

Yes, for the added features. The watched topics panel is great. I also like the ability to watch a whole forum.

I have karma turned off on the main site, and people aren't really using thanks and ignore all that much, but you might or might not enjoy those features. You can also make a forum that requires X number of posts to view, which I'm not using currently but may have a use for soon. (You could do that in CPGBB by figuring this out manually then adding all those users to a group, but it wouldn't be dynamic.)

The added "who's online" stuff is nifty too.

Smooth upgrade here too. Was really sweating it as I've had a lot of customizations over the years, and we started life as a php-nuke site originally. But it all went smoothly.
