There is no dragonfly module and I doubt there ever will be because the author doesn't want it ported again.

He can't stop that, since i still see the GPL.
If he doesn't want it, he should use a different license.

He can't stop it legally maybe, but morally if the original developer says "No Porting" when asked it would be bad form indeed to go ahead and port.

As for why he doesn't want it ported, Paul feels that as "a programming professional" he shouldn't have to put up with people like me porting his code and giving it away. See this thread. Since my port was a horrible life sucking monster he's probably correct. I won't be developing this module further, although the Buddy List block perhaps deserves another look.

You don't feel that a "No" from the developer stop it being done?

It always seemed right that the DF community took the stance of only porting themes and modules that had permission (or no current developer).

Well, if he doesn't want it ported to DragonflyCMS, why is he posting in these forums? Or is it just spam.

We don't take a stance, it's a free world and anyone may do anything with opensource software as long as it stays open.

If someone doesn't want that he should take a closed source license.

However we do take a stance when it comes to credits and support.

Phoenix I think the confusion is that this guy writes the instant messenger but tripknotix2 writes the buddy list part of it. If I have that right.

Success !

Paul Says:
Quote::

I don't mind if they port it and just link back to php121.com. That's my only condition. Everything else they want to do I fully support.

Paul does not clearly state whether he means, you may mass release it now .... or when version 3.1 is out (as to not affect donations).

i think you are safe to start developement at least, because it wont be terribly long before v3.1 is released.

many features were developed before 3.0 was release, and were just not included because they havent yet been properly tested.

as for the block, a new block would be needed because it was entirely re-written from the ground up, however, it is very easy to grab a buddy list and/or buddy groups from the database.

if you want an example, check out the php121buddyprofile.php page, it is completely detached from the program itself, however, grabs many things from the core pages for use ONLY if a user is Logged In, otherwise, it displays as a static page.

heres an example, demo.php121.com/php121...ripknotix3

view that logged out, then view it logged in =) .... LEAVE A COMMENT !!! plz =)

i love comments, and will love you for them Wink ;)

Post subject: Re: Php121 Instant Messenger 3 With Buddy List

lol i just did a search for what i posted on Thu Oct 27, 2005 1:00 pm at www.dragonflycms.org/F...rt=15.html

Quote::
Its going to be a part of the IM Buddy List w/ Mini My Space.
In other words, it will feature the ability to let others view your Buddy list then displaying all Buddies (with icons for online offline) with included Avatar (exactly like how myspace does it) So basically thats the entire My Space feature summed up =), it will feature the ability to add comments becuz for the blog part of it, it will display ONLY the newest Journal entry from the existing Nuke Journal Editor. thus no coding is neccesary except on the part of making the editor easily available in the mini-my-space editor. a Search function should do it

lol the result is completely different from my original plan ...

after 1 year and 4 months, how well do you guys think i did? =)
