Maybe we should first return to the default theme before upgrading?
If this is the case maybe we should be warned not only to backup the database and the site files but also reset the theme to default or maybe dragonfly?

dragonflycms.org/Forum...tml#124027

After changing through phpmyadmin, you will need to clear your website cache folder.

The problem is usually caused by failure to upload ALL files when upgrading, or a faulty custom theme.

Maybe you should go into the database and change the default theme there.
Maybe someone who knows how to do that could help you better than me, because I don't know exactly how to do that.

See, Phoenix had already answered your question before I did.

Thanx Phoenix, now I know how to solve these kind of problems, when I ever would be confronted with it myself.

Still: my remark/question still stands.
Is it better to change the theme to default or dragonfly before updating?
Would really like to know

I know that changing to default has been discussed in recent times, and Nano still has it under consideration. I personally favor that approach, but that's only one user's view.

However, it still won't solve the most common cause of issues in the first place - people are simply not uploading the upgraded theme files which contain the necessary templates, specifically admin templates.

phoenix, i was under the impression that in the older versions, if it couldnt find a file in the theme you selected, it automatically looked in the default folder

SO, i assumed that since i had uploaded them into the default folder, i was okay cause the missing files would be found there, without overwriting the modded files from the theme...

i think thats what most ppl are confused on

hmm, true, though we've seen many cases where they weren't uploaded.

It may be that your theme isn't correctly coded and we've also seen a number of those.

There are some natural exceptions to the rule, like templated blocks for custom modules, but that's different to your situation.

When you have a problem with a theme, you can also recover like so,
admin.php?prevtheme=default

Theme designers should update their themes, you might give him a little of time to update the theme, 9.1.2.1 is just come out.

Seems that the Graphical Admin Menu is turned off by default with DF9.1.2.1
Simply type in my.site.url/admin.php?op=settings&s=9
and turn on Graphical Menu
