Post subject: Screenshot thumbs won't display

Some of my downloads on my website don't display the thumbs of the screenshot, but they were generated when i uploaded the pic. They aren't displayed on the 'featured downloads' or on the details page.
Even if i change the main screenshot it isn't displayed.
Any ideas why?

Does this bugreport describe the problem you are having?

In my case (it's my bugreport), the thumbnail files names aren't getting generated correctly. Check the folder and see if you've got the same issue.

I haven't had time to look into it further than that, let alone craft my own solution. I don't know if the development staff(er) is aware of the bug report or no...

Same problem for "This Site" - an interim workaround is to upload png files.

Ahh, no one had really mentioned it up to now (at least that I noticed). Thought it might be something particular to my site. I just haven't had time to really look at it closely, other than to note that the thumbnail files weren't getting named correctly.

At least I know I'm not crazy. Very Happy

I usually use png files, so only noticed it last week because I had one update with a jpg file.

The reason is not obvious, so I haven't delved into it either. Suffice to so, it's not how it used to behave, so maybe it's a PHP5 issue?

I had contacted the author of Downloads Pro at one point concerning this problem. He e-mailed me a replacement file (can't remember exactly which file it was) that immediately fixed the problem. I will try to remember to look into my past e-mail once I get home from work, and report back here what the fix was. If possible, I will attach the file to this post.

Sorry, but I jumped the gun there. The problem I was having was that the thumbnails showed up fine, but when I clicked them to see the full-size image, I would just get a blank page. On that note, I found the e-mail to Trevor of this problem, but in reflection, we went from e-mail to chat to figure out the problem, and I do not have the chat logs (it was around 9-16-2006). I am sorry I could not shed any light on the issue you are having.

Ok, I just found the chat log for whomever might have been interested in the issue I was having.

Quote::
5:14 PM me: sup man. I saw you registered on my site, www.freaksufnature.com
Trevor: hi tim
5:15 PM did you get my email
me: i am reading it now, I will follow up on the cpgnuke.com post
Trevor: k
5:17 PM me: i cannot go to the link you sent
Trevor: hm thats odd
5:18 PM whats it say
me: yea, I AM able to go the the project page though, is there a certain bug report I should look at?
Trevor: dragonflycms.org/Proje...d=842.html
its the one you reported
or is that not you
5:19 PM oops i think i got the usernames mixed up
sorry
me: that is not me, my name on that site is RottGutt
lol
Trevor: lol
ok so your issue is different
tell me about the downloads pro setup you have
did you recently upgrade
5:20 PM me: yes, everything works great until I click a screeshot thumbnail to see the full image, but I get what should be the page with no image showing
I am using beta 3
Trevor: did you upgrade to that version?
me: that is the first version I installed, so no upgrades
Trevor: hm
me: happens in both IE and Opera web browsers
5:21 PM Trevor: login as admin and tell me if you see any errors on the bottom of that page
me: k, 1 sec
Trevor: it looks like you're missing a template file
5:22 PM me: sorry, got cut off... no errors are showing
5:23 PM looks just like the screen capture I posted on www.cpgnuke.com
5:24 PM Trevor: have you made any changes to the theme template files for the module that you'd like to keep?
if not it might help to reupload all the template files
themes/yourtheme/template/downloads
5:25 PM me: k, I am using ZoneCopper ont he site. I will re-upload the entire theme. I will also change the site's theme to test if that makes any difference
Trevor: you dont need to reupload the whole theme
just the template files for the downloads module
5:26 PM or what you can do is upload the downloads template files to the default theme
and change the site theme to default
that's probably the best way to go about debugging this
5:27 PM its funny that this issue should come up now. as we speak im in the process of rewriting the entire screenshot display system
me: k, I just changes the theme to both dragonfly and cpgnuke, but then I click the Downloads link and get a link error, I changes it to tcd_Warcraft, and I get the same problem with the full size image not showing up
Trevor: i can give you the updated files for that when im done
me: that would be great! would be glad to beta test for you
5:28 PM Trevor: great. so is it ok with you if i finish this up and give you a copy for you to test. and after that if you still cant see the screenshots we'll fix the old system, ok?
5:29 PM me: yes, sounds great. Thank you for letting me contact you directly.
Trevor: no problem
me: k, talk to you later.
Trevor: i'll be in touch in a few hours
me: cool, I look forward to it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10 minutes

5:40 PM me: you still there?
Trevor: yes
5:41 PM me: I uploaded the template files and it fixed the full-size image probles, but now I get this error when I go to the Downloads module:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in /home/freak6/public_html/cache/tpl_wsg_ZoneCopper_downloads#categories.html.inc on line 34
lol!
I will probably just re-upload all my files if that is the easiest thing to do.
Trevor: hm empty all the files in the cache/ folder
that should fix it
5:42 PM me: I just emptied the cache, I thought that would be the fix, but I am still getting the error
Trevor: thats weird
5:43 PM me: ya, not your problem though! I thought you might know a quick fix for it.
Trevor: im not sure why youd be getting that. try deleting the categories.html file and reupload it
me: k, where is that file located? In the Downloads Pro module?
5:44 PM Trevor: themes/yourtheme/template/downloads/categories.htm;
yeah somethings up. categories.html is only 12 lines long and the error says its happening on line 34
me: k, I will try that. I will let you get back to your business.
5:45 PM Trevor: oh wait
me: ya?
Trevor: i forgot you're using the packaged release
the file may be different. im using the cvs
let me check
me: k
5:46 PM Trevor: yeah they're different. but its only 33 lines long
i would delete the file and reupload
me: will do.
5:48 PM that fixed it! I will still be glad to beta test your new files for you if you like.
5:49 PM Trevor: ok great. that would really be helpful
i'll send them along soon
me: k, thanks a ton for the help! cya later.

Post subject: Re: Screenshot thumbs won't display

I finally found the root cause - it was also causing image attachments in the Forums to not generate thumbnails for large images correctly also. Basically, image_type_to_extension() function returns unpredictable/inconsistent results - it's returning "jpeg" as the file extension, instead of "jpg". The code path expects "jpg", so the generated thumbnail file gets immediately orphaned.

Bug report #965 submitted.

Bug report closed. Its just a work-around but will correctly do the work.

Only PHP5 users were affected.
