After all the fuss yesterday I tried putting in the Meta Tag But here is the rror I got back from google:

We've detected that your verification file returns a status of 403 (Forbidden) in the header.

What should I do now? I tried the approach suggested by Phoenix.

I have verified that I am getting the 403 (Forbidden) error also.

From what I gather from Google website this is only used to verify ownership sooooooo...

To bypass, I used the file method.

1. Create and Post the file specified by Google
2. Temporarily disable your .htaccess (rename to bak.htaccess)
3. Have google check for file
4. Voila
5. Put your .htaccess back in place (see #2)

No renaming is not the problem, but finding it in the first place is. It is not there in the root directory as I tried finding it and as well uploaded it many a times but in vain. Any sugesstions?

Sorry for ignoring your post greenday2k. I went through it once more and thanks for that advice. It is pretty easy and every one can try it. Thank you so very much once again.

I wanted to chime in here as well. Simply rename your .htaccess file. I temp. renamed my htaccess.html. Upload the google file. Verify the website. Rename the htaccess.html file to .htaccess.. (Don't forget to rename the file)

It works..

There is a simpler and safer approach which should work.

admin.php?op=security - set "Unknown User-Agents" to "Inactive" and Google should be able to get through.

I'm confused....why would an 'admin' page be causing 'Google' issues?
