|
Alright, so I have switched my site over to the domain name and now I'm having cookie problems again. I can log into my user account without a problem. When I try to log into the admin account, or I try to make a new member account I get the "Please enable cookies to post on this site. If you feel that you have reached this message in error please go back to the preceding page and post again" error. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

This typically is a problem with caching. Ensure you delete the contents of the cache directory on your server as well as flushing all cookies and browser cached pages from your machine.
BTW this 'topic' has been around for a few years now and many threads discuss it.

Jeruvy?
Does this mean we need to manually remove these files daily on active sites now?
Each time a process is made, obviously something will load into these folders but we can possably have to delete content of CACHE on the server all the time daily.
am i missing something?... just curious

You dont have to delete you sites cache everyday. Just hen ever you make changes for domain path folder path anything with cookies, etc. make sure you cache folder is chmod 755 or 777 if 755 doesnt work it needs to be writable.

The PURPOSE of the cache is to speed up loading of common pages. Every time someone reads a page or loads a link, it will store a cached version of that page.
If you UPDATE a page and you SEE the update not taking place, DELETING the cache will force you to 'renew' the cache, hence your update should now be visible.
The cache is NOT essential, it is a speed bonus.
I hope that clarifies the mystery

If the site is working fine (from your hosts perspective), have you enabled all the debugging and reviewed the content provided from it?

there inlies the problem
they keep saying i installed it wrong
i have a DF installation running for 3 years now on another server with no problems
this other host (where the problems are) tells me they were able to log in after turning off their personal firewall (WT Heck?)
obviously im not going to have every user who joins this other installation turn off F-Walls.
Anyway.
I told one of them to log in with ADMIN access (they end up with teh same problem i have)
i told them to log in with a created user access (they end up with the same problem)
Then i explained they can join my original site and try to move around. What do ya know.... they had no problems there.
however they still tell me the problem is my installation procedure?

cookie settings = please explain where you mean
the cookie settings of my browser or of the DF installation
Which installation we are talking about is NOT the one in my signature
here is an example
www.djrhenalt.com/vinyl
try this
USERNAME = dizzy
password = liqidtch
log in and click MY ACCOUNT
if you get to that screen click on the link for your account Preferrances
other then that i have no problem giving out the admin user and pass details because each time you log in as admin you get the
YOU MUST HAVE COOKIES ENABLED TO POST TO THIS SITE. message

DF installation settings: admin - main settings - cookies
your path should not be the entire absolute path. try
cookie domain: www.djrhenalt.com
cookie path: /vinyl/

please see above rlgura. I can not log in as admin
i did however log into the control panel for SQL and alter it in there
/vinyl/ is what it started with originally
the coockie domain is also what it should be
see here for a follow up

I'm still showing your cookie path as: /home/users/web/b7/pow.djrhenalt/htdocs/cgi-bin/
cookie domain looks ok.
