Post subject: Custom Profile Fields

Right i apologize if this has already been fixed but one thing that has really bugged me is this...

When the admin creates custom profile fields they don't seem to display anywhere...not in the users profile, not in their mini profile, not anywhere i can find.

So what i propose is the following:

The admin be given the options of:
1. where to display each custom profile field
2. which groups can edit the field
3. what type of input is required for the field (drop down boxes etc...see below)
4. If the field can be filled out upon user registration or later from their profile, and if it is mandatory for the user to fill it out.

Now to address the types of input for these fields:
1. drop down boxes - give the admin the option of what goes in the drop down boxes, and whether there is an image associated with the option, whether the image is a small image to the side of the drop down box with the text to its left or whether the option is just displayed as an image. (this would allow for the easy introduction of custom ranks and awards without necessitating overriding the main rank in the users profile)
2. text boxes - with the option for the admin to specify what content is allowed in the text box - whether it be letters, only, numbers only, alpha numeric, if special characters are allowed, if the text is part of a link, if the whole of the input is a url, etc

k i tried it and it didn't work...but what i need this to do is more complex than the mod you've made there.

In Admin Menu > Members Config > Fields > Add Custom Field

I would like the admin to be able when setting up the field to have the following options...
1. where to display each custom profile field

2. which groups can edit the field

3. what type of input is required for the field (drop down boxes etc...see below)
--- drop down boxes - give the admin the option of what goes in the drop down boxes, and whether there is an image associated with the option, whether the image is a small image to the side of the drop down box with the text to its left or whether the option is just displayed as an image. (this would allow for the easy introduction of custom ranks and awards without necessitating overriding the main rank in the users profile)
--- text boxes - with the option for the admin to specify what content is allowed in the text box - whether it be letters, only, numbers only, alpha numeric, if special characters are allowed, if the text is part of a link, if the whole of the input is a url, html, bbcode, etc etc

4. If the field can be filled out upon user registration or later from their profile, and if it is mandatory for the user to fill it out.

If you can have more patience, check again after the next release of DF. Don't ask me when, I'm waiting too Smile

This is one of the area's getting a lot of attention so if you keep checking one day you will find the solution.

Yes, thats the right place

I would like the admin to be able when setting up the field to have the following options...

  1. where to display each custom profile field

if its a public field then it will display in the public user profile only, if private will not but will be editable by the user in the "Private" account tools section

  2. which groups can edit the field

The user, admin and co-admins with Your_Account privileges

  3. what type of input is required for the field (drop down boxes etc...see below)
    1. drop down boxes - give the admin the option of what goes in the drop down boxes, and whether there is an image associated with the option, whether the image is a small image to the side of the drop down box with the text to its left or whether the option is just displayed as an image. code its there but disactivated, when will be ready will not have fancy images associations.

    2. text boxes - with the option for the admin to specify what content is allowed in the text box - whether it be letters, only, numbers only, alpha numeric, if special characters are allowed, if the text is part of a link, if the whole of the input is a url, html, bbcode, etc etc

its there already, text or numbers also you can specify the lenght. BBCode for text is allowed, not html, urls using bbcode
  4. If the field can be filled out upon user registration or later from their profile, and if it is mandatory for the user to fill it out.

you can already have registration-required, registration-optional and after registration (optional of course)

Does this help you?
