I'm with the 'no use live' camp.
Yahoo rules...

Gmail rules! Yahoo to me is trying to copycat gmail (no offends jeruvy). My wife and sister use them, and I seen what it looks like. I also have a yahoo mail (have not login it for a while now). And I tried to use it and it definately bloated to the rim I cant even find what I needed to do in it. It used to beuser friendly and now it got too fancy and hard to use.
Inbox is also good a lot of good functions with 5GB of email space. I was uning it for a while. But did not have time to keep up with it so I quite using it.

I am dumb, but I don't see what the problem with live.com (or hotmail) is. It is very portable and for me the Spam filter works really well, I have held the original hotmail account for nearly three years and the only real spam-ish type problem I have was self inflicted Like I say, I am thick!
So would somebody like to elaborate what exactly the problem is

I've used a hotmail account since 2001 and receive hardly any spam at all, maybe 5 per week. I used to use the account for my work where I couldn't access my home mail so people could contact me at anytime.

I use my domain, in a 3rd party email client software.
As a back up, I paid the $19.95 yearly fee for Yahoo Mail Plus.
Instead of the free limited yahoo email.
Unlike free Yahoo (or Hotmail) its advertising free & comes with spam guard plus (dont have to buy 3rd party spam software), offline access (pop mail forwarding) allows me to dl my yahoo email into 3rd party client.
Larger attachments, blah, blah, blah, blah.
So all my email address are all tucked away in one nice little package.
One thing I learned about choosing an email account for important things, DO NOT USE YOUR ISP!!
Why?
Well, if you live in "an every changing area", where Internet gets cheaper depending on who you are with.
I dont want to make the mistake of settling on one service provider when a year down the road something better might come along.
For example: BPL (Broadband Powerlines!)
(but this threads about email, not isp, BPL is another topic)

BPL? No, you should go FTTP (a.k.a. FTTH) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...e_premises
But yeah, if i have FTTP it will be around my 10th ISP and i don't want to inform all my friends about a new email address all over again.

Yep - I use a mail.com email address that's forwarded to my ISP account (9.95 a year) and retrieved with Pop3 client. This way, when I change ISP's, I just change the forwarder. I also have:
free Yahoo email (used for Spam - anywhere that online signup requires email)
free GMail - only select few have it and my important web admin accounts point to it, so I can see alerts at work.

We currently have avaliable to us Verizon FiOS (same as FTTP). However, my Lan Line is Verizon, my Cell Phone Wireless is Verizon, so I am just sitting tight for now, with my current provider.
So for me, ISP change like the wind these days ... I do not bother with setting up am email account with them. If I do, its quickly forwarded to my favorite email and never shared.
rlgura: I am like you, I also have an email account set up for spam and online registrations, I, however use Hotmail. Hee hee....
