Post subject: Crazy or Genious?

I have been having problems with keeping my hardware cool. Cpu at an idle was running at 64C to 68C GPU even higher. I dont mke much money and afford a new case with better cooling right now. But I thought of a way to keep it cool. I turned the heat off to my computer room. Worked great except I froze my marbles off to. So I got to thinking. Here is what I came up with.

I wanted to be warm but at the same time keep my pc cool.

So I rearranged my pc room so my window is right beside my desk. I took a card board box and redesigned it for my use. It acts like a furnace duct. the intake fan sucks air from outside the house (which is 21F) throught the cardboard box into the case. my cpu now runs at 33C/34C at an idle and maxes out at 54C under full 100% load for 30 minutes.

What do you all think.

How much is 21 F in Celsius? I'm too lazy to search for the difference myself.

A lot of other people have made similar windows cooling for the PC aswell. For me the problems begin in summer, when it might reach to +33 C, but in Winter when might reach to -20 C (no, that low might be maximum for a week), there are no problems.

Hope any bugs or something won't fly in there, as I can't see exactly from the pic how you designed the location of computer.

BTW, did you just try removing the case?

21F turns out to be about -6.11 C According to my calculations.

The colder you can run your computer the better. It will last longer and less likely of heat damage.

If you can stick your PC in the cold storage room that would work fine.

However, optical drives do not like below 0 celsius temperatures, and even hard disks could start acting wierd in those sub zero temps. The temp isn't so bad but the freezing and thawing and condensation can be real killers

Stuff to keep in mind.

Yes, but what about when it warms up here in Ohio? Smile

You normally do not want to remove the case - the case and fans are designed to route the air flow over the CPU and harddrives, etc

Man I really envy that piece of beauty. I saw it a few days back when you linked it in another thread. It looks really cool!
