Need a free lance section on this site for those who are seeking work with DF, building sites, installation, correcting errors for users, theming etc.

Many people are looking for this, to have work done that is and a freelance section could centralize all those requests and clear up other forums.

Why not consider joining: www.dfbounty.org or you can visit Diz's site: www.dizfunkshunal.com/index.php

His is a growing community which supports df.

Well, I am thinking of taking on some new Projects. But if I do so I will need some help.
If there any one out there who have skills in Creating graphics for themes, scripting themes, also scripting modules and you would like to help out. Please let me know. Most of the work here will be open source and free. I do have paid jobs that come around but no one would be assigned to any of them until after I see what they can do and how well they do it.

I believe our current forum structure is enough for this community.

There are many sites out there which already offer what you are suggesting. This sites main focus is dragonfly core. As it should be.

I believe there is a requirement for a site or a forum within this site for those seeking paid work and those requiring it.

DFBounty's system is flawed. The bounties on offer are generally tiny and programmers are reluctant to offer their services because there's no guarantee they'll get paid or their work will get used. I understand the concept was to ensure healthy competition but there just aren't enough developers out there willing to do hours and hours of work, on spec, for little or no reward.

Dizfunkshunal is the person who was given the dfaddons.com domain, a once healthy and active community of 3rd party developers and DF supporters, and who in a few short months completely destroyed it and alienated everyone who contributed to it.

Where else is there for a webmaster to go to engage a developer to do custom work for him/her in a traditional customer - supplier relationship?

hmm, I have a site I never completed - a genuine freelancer site.

Maybe it's time to dust it off and finish the job.

That's interesting.

Awesome percentage rates

For whom I wonder?

Personally, I think peoples expectation of what bespoke development should cost are way too low. They see modules for free or completed on DFB for less than $100 and assume that's the going rate for work just for them. Whilst I like to accommodate work like that to bring modules to the community, that doesn't translate to work for individual sites, especially commercial ones. These rates certainly have no margin for a commission.

Also most folks have absolutely no idea how to define requirements up front and that makes the idea of fixed price tender ridiculous.

What you might do is flag those developers / themers who will take paid work on the lists you already have on top of the forums here. Punters can then check out each developers site and see their work, contacting those with they feel they like. That's way better than me paying $25 for a "certified" medal anyways.

The site is far from finished and is intended as a totally free service - only costs are the losses in PayPal fees and you will incur fees like that anywhere.

My whole intent was to encourage DF coding, not make a profit, as usual.

DFB can never meet genuine freelancer needs - simply the nature of the beast.

There is already a listing of resource sites - edit your listing.

Thanks I had forgotten about that. I will update it.

Maybe you might want to update / remove the links on the opening page which how point to threads that are removed.

Agreed. It's been helpful for speeding up work for the community but not for private work (which wasn't its purpose anyway), although it has sent people my way. It's a good way to get yourself known.

hmm, see what you mean about the $25 Laughing - the site has been on the back-burner a long time.

I can't remember whether the Licence section is editable by users, so I've updated yours to GPL-Commercial.

@Wizzard308 - if you wish to make your services available, I suggest you add a Digest entry Smile
The purpose of this site and forums is DF core, which is why we added the Digest, to direct people to other resources than just downloads.

Hmm, sorry, I'd forgotten about the Digest as well, however I have to say it's very well hidden. If I were a webmaster looking for someone to do me some custom work I doubt I'd have found it or knew what it was.

WRT it being hidden, that's what this bit referred too. The Themes and Modules links in CMS Community section on the front page here at DF.org are essentially broken and should, I guess, now point to the digest.

DF is essentially a community project and as such probably shouldn't be pushing commercial services, but it might be nice to give the busy developer community a higher profile.

I think I might. Twisted Evil

Dragonflylance could be interesting. Freelance, in general, could be.

Though, I would rather see this community be more focused on helping people like Nanocaiordo resolidify the core. By which, I mean, they (people like nano) are getting help, but seem to need more.

Bringing that back on-topic Big grin I see nothing wrong with THIS website offering "bounties" on over-due core (or core related) work. Module work should stay off-site, mostly.
