We all know the issue: Will it render?
Once upon a time when you were young, you made first contact with a computer.
The wonderfull thing had a [start] button and Internet Explorer.
You were happily browsing websites and found out about website building.
Those days are over. The Web2.0 is here thanks to several techniques thanks to companies like Microsoft, Mozilla and Apple.
But how do you know if your incredible website will work in all of them?
So you try to download all browsers with different engines (Gecko, KHTML, WebKit, MSIE, etc.)
Problem is:
- Only Firefox, Opera and IE work in Windows OS
- Only Firefox, Opera and Safari work in OSX
So what to do?
Download a Linux+KDE distribution to your liking and:
1. Install Firefox (for Gecko)
2. Install Opera
3. Install IE4Linux (any Internet Explorer you want)
4. Install WebKit (Midori, Kazehakase, GtkLauncher, QtLauncher, Arora, etc. etc.) to simulate Safari
5. Konqueror is part of KDE so no install needed
Who said web-developers needs many computers?
If you know more browsers that run on Linux with unknown engines feel free to add them!

Safari works just fine on Windows OS - if it had a few more development tools, I'd probably choose it ahead of useless FF.

Safari crashes on my Windows XP and Vista boxes.
The only version i got working is 3.0.3 on Windows 2000.
I use Midori 0.0.18 on Linux (uses WebKit) and it passes Acid3
Run the test here: acid3.acidtests.org/

DJ you're showing your age! Many years of Netscape 1.0 (Mosaic based) browser before the M$ stuff.
IE 6, and thus IE7, are not stable on Ubuntu 64bit (7.10 & 8.04 on 2 diff systems, so suspect AMD64 is the issue), although IE5/5.5 both are. But Safari works fine under Wine on the same Ubuntu.
FF3 with Ubuntu skin and a small number of key plugins is more than adequate.

Safari, Midori, Kazehakase, GtkLauncher, QtLauncher and Arora they all crashes, in any platform, because of WebKit bugs.

I use Kubuntu 8.04 (32) at work on Intel and IE works fine (despite of wineserver eating all CPU)
At home on Fedora 8 (64) with Intel, IE6 works but IE7 is terribly slow. So i think it is due to the 64bit architecture and not AMD specific.

You're right, sometimes it crashes on me.
Flash doesn't work but who cares about adobe products anyway?
The good thing though, despite the crashes, is that i can pinpoint CSS issues between browsers and fonts.
Due to this i can become a real CSS hacker and eventualy write a webpage in just one browser and be 99.9% sure it will work in any browser
The biggest trick is to get all fonts lined-up correctly so there are no box-model size issues.
