I would like to see the ability added to not only receive notification of a reply to your post in a forum, but to be able to subscribe to a forum so that you can be notified when any new posts are made in that forum.
Time is short and I often don't have the time to haunt various websites and check to see if anythig new has been posted in a topic area I am interested in, or perhaps one that I am moderating.
We use this feature in a technical forum (Snitz software) and it's great for a rapid reply to people who are asking for help.

If you look at the bottom of the forum page on the left, you will see a caption that says, "watch this topic for replies" Therein lies your answer!!!

I think he wants that facility applied to each of the forums.

Correct.
I would like the ability to flag the entire forum for "watching" rather then a topic.
For an example when someone starts a new topic, say in "HELP", I would liked to be notified so that I could pop in and see if I can help them out quickly.

I think this would be great as on our site I have moderators set up for different forums and they have asked if there is anyway to be able to be notified when someone posts in there for moderation purposes.

I disagree with the proposed implementation. A site with busy forums would bury you in e-mails, which would annoy any potential user into turning it off. A daily or weekly digest would be the way to go, and already exists here as a module for phpbb2:
www.phpbb.com/phpBB/vi...p?t=187868
I doubt porting it CPG-Nuke would be that difficult, although requirement would be that the user has the ability to schedule cron jobs, or that another method be introduced to invoke the "digest-sending" module.

Yet this should be something the user can turn off and on themselves such as now exists with the current "Watch this topic" ability.
This feature is found on other systems that I use, and have used, and it is nice to have.
True, a site with high traffic would be silly, but that same high traffic site may have one forum that interests you more then any other, and it may only get a few posts a week in it. Instead of checking daily, you can watch that forum for any new topics to be created.
The goal of computers is to make life easier if possible. At work we have a system that has this implemented as a technical forum for all the networking folks nation-wide. If someone runs into a problem, they post it on the forum and we're all immediately aware of it and can login to see if we can help. It would be a waste of time to login to the site hourly just to see if someone has posted a problem.

www.phpbbhacks.com/download/293 is what you need or since its already in phpbb 2.x maybe the devs will consider integrating it into cpg

Mystic,
I agree. Now that I have a little more time I will try to port this mod.

The only warning I will give with this is use caution, depending on how many users you have and how many choose to subscribe it can put a strain on your mail system.
