I installed a DF site three days ago and it worked fine. Then I started receiving an Error 500 and this is what the access log reports:

The index.php file has a permission level of CHMOD 644. Just for testing purposes I tried increasing the level all the way to 777 and it still gave the error. (I changed the permissions level back to 644.)
The htaccess file was only slightly modified. I tried to:
- turn off the htaccess file by renaming it and it made no change
- put back the original htaccess file and it made no change.
- I cleared the cache and temporary browser files before testing each change.

I will be glad to give a url to the site by PM. The stats on the site are:
Apache 1.3.37, Mysql 4.1.27, Php 4.x

I will contact the host regarding this, but I would like to have an idea on what to say to them on how to fix this, other than merely reporting the error. Anyone have any ideas?

Contact your web host. That's an internal permissions error on the server.

Try to delete the file and re-upload it again using F T P otherwise do what Bush say.

What I believe is happening is: the server has installed suexec, phpsuexec or others and there is a mismatch between permissions/owner/group and your account/httpd/file.
