Post subject: User tables question from 9.1.2 to 9.2.1

Since I modded the site quite a bit I decided a fresh 9.2 would do better than trying to upgrade. I brought over all the cms_bbs, cms_users, cms_fpros and the stats tables. Everything is a go except 1 lil hitch with the forums that come with DF.

The permissions for the bb forums on the new site match the old exactly but the new site doesn't seem to follow the perms rules. Basically any logged in member can see any forum even tho some are hidden and unused. To test this I registered a new user and the perms work perfectly. Did I forget a table or are they not compatible?

Thanks.

When you say you brought over the old tables, I would hope you did that before running the 9.2 install, because upgrades actually check and change some data, and provide a repair mechanism.

I suggest you check the old and new for differences.

Actually I set up the whole 9.2.1 site the way I wanted and then brought over backed up parts of the 9.1.2 db in pieces a little at a time to make sure everything worked.

So I could create a new db. drop a couple 9.1.2 tables into it and then install 9.2.1 over top?

Is there a better way of saving all the users logins and the forum posts?

The best way to preserve your previous user/forum info is to upgrade your existing database and files - that way you get the best result from the installer's checking and repairing of the db tables.

If you have concerns about some existing modules/blocks, it is best to deactivate each of them, do the upgrade, then activate and check, one by one, so you can easily back up one step, bypass a module/block that has an issue, and search/seek assistance with that one.

Alternatively, where users have concerns about the upgrade process, we recommend a test upgrade on a duplicate site, using a duplicate of the database - then you can test and find solutions whilst preserving your original site until you are happy to do the live upgrade.

For the hell of it I grabbed the entire db from 9.1.2 dropped into a new db changed the server path and cookie path to 9.2.1 location in config_custom, emptied the 9.2.1 site cache and ran it like an upgrade. Went without a hitch except I have the same issue.

The Fpro forums perms are perfect but the default ones no go.
Thanks for the help tho.

At least your existing database has been correctly checked and adjusted now.

Your standard forums say "This board has no forums".
