Hi folks

I wanna bring a subject up that has been bothering me for sometime, and its not just DF but alot of other CMS structures out there.

I tend to find that because you have different programmers making different modules and blocks, they all have there own way of making up categories or the way things are displayed.

This has so gotta be confusing for the end user and makes the display and layout of any cms website very up and down and all over the place..

Maybe we need some form of standard templating for Directory's and other modules, so they all meld together.. and not just displays but submissions of data.

Say you have 10 modules installed on your website, all have there own submission forms.. what about one submission page with a choice drop down of what you want to submit and when chosen, the Submission form for that module comes up.

Also if you look at myspace facebook and all other big social sites, they all have picture or file upload ..where by most of DF modules, users have to upload file onto a server and place in the url links...

If everyone wants this why not DF members all place a little into a pot and we employ programmers to polish the lot that we all need and to push on wards and up wards..

Not just for the modules already created but new projects . We used to have a site that did just that and alot of progress was made..

I can try and get something organized by placing out some press releases for developers, but I need to know how much interest is out there first within the DF community for actually wanting this.....ie if there is 20-30 people wanting to chip into a pot its going to make it worth while for the developers.....

So who's up for it place your user name in the list if we get enough people we can them move on from there.

FEED BACK PLEASE

CHEERS Tim

HERE IS A SAMPLE OF JUST FOUR DIFFERENT DIRECTORIES

what is the one thing they all have in common even thou they are four different types of directories

they all make a submission which could be made universal

only the download Directory has picture upload.. the rest is all links to wherever for pictures..

what I am saying is

whichever you are submitting to could be made universal by one form...

Submission could be done by step one a drop down to choose what you are submitting to.

which takes you to a standard form that produces a neat template layout.

yes some entries are going to be wanting different information but I am sure something could be done to make things a lot easier on end user and simplified

and so on ...this is just a rough idea but maybe you guys could add to it

cheers Tim

I get your idea now.

They are all mostly text content-type modules (downloads is exception). It's hard (and probably not the best idea) to make a common gateway for them all. I would instead use layingback's Pro News, where you can select template, though I'm not sure how powerful it exactly is or is not.

However, it might be interesting system to have something where you fill title and content and THEN it asks which type it should be (an article, addition to some list (recipes, business entries), and after selecting the type you will have more specified form.

Or just a selection menu: Add [Download|Article|Wiki page|...], though admin menu has the functionality, but not that specific. By the way did you have it in mind for admins only or members/visitors too?

FOR Members and admin not for visitors i.e if they cant be bothered to join why would they be interested in placing in infomation -- unless it was spam of which no one wants...
