New DF 9.X Meg Mod Pack - 40 Addons

Cued the file up here for the downloads and it is posted at dfaddons.com.

Consider installing on a test server site first, before on a live site, to check it out a little and explore some of the settings!

Registration is required, in an effort to help with updates, bug fixes, and new releases, etc. and also added a mega theme pack with 32 skins in it!

Will work on getting some additional support documentation together, other than what is available by the developers/authors.

earth, your description if the Mega Pack is rather terse, but it seems that you have combined a large number of individually released modules into 1 large module, or at least package.

If you are releasing this under GNU GPL 2 or later, then I believe every module included in the pack must be under the same GNU GPL 2 license or at the very least a license which is compatible with GPL 2, in order to comply with GNU GPL.

From your screenshot included on your download page, this does not look to be true. Downloads Pro for example is not released under GPL 2, and thus your Mega Pack cannot be released.

As far as your concerns goes, as mentioned here, ...sure we can work with developers to insure their contributions are relased in a manner, that is acceptable with them, so that their products and the dragonfly cms clients are happy!

Thanks, but no thanks. Developing - and more significantly, releasing and supporting - Pro_News already takes up more of my time than I'd like! In any case, IMHO DF developers need more support from the community, not the other way around.

Re the Mega Pack, it is not simply a question of keeping the developers happy, although that is a worthwhile goal. It is a legal matter of complying with the GNU GPL under which most of us developers, including the CPG-Nuke Dev Team, have released our code. We have to comply with the letter of GPL2 in order to adhere to DF licensing, even to the extent of "giving away" our code. (But not our Copyright: which you are technically jeopardising with your Mega Pack.) Without GPL you would not be able to do what you are doing at all, so it has to be worth your while if you want to be in the software distribution business to read up on GPL and comply with it like the rest of us.

Please read, and understand, the GPL 2, there should be a copy with each product released under GPL 2, plus there is a link to it at the foot of this site, and at the foot of dffaddons. You may also find this Wiki link useful, specifically the part about Compatibility and Multi-licensing when combining products. It should be self-explanatory, if not then please ask. Or search this site.

Until you get this is sorted, it would be wise to suspend the download of your mega pack. Thank you.

layingback, right on...dfaddons is going to be supporting developers as much as possible, so if you have a pay pal donation button link,, we'll post it up on the site, as well as a help desk there, so you can or we can track Pro_News development and maybe you can get some funds coming in there and attention to your, super duper mod, as best mod of the year, maybe get a little cash kitty contest or something , so please consider the offer, as did not want to go into it all here, however it is an offer that is open to everyone at all levels...looked for a banner at your site to add to the header and will do for the supporters, if you would like to add s paypal donation widget, etc., please just join up and send a pm to me or we can discuss it in the forums, there, as not to go off topicf here, and we can discuss any of your other concerns as well...thanks again.

All fine (well, not actually) but .... getting back to my original point, and at the risk of repeating myself: You CANNOT ship DF Mega Mod Pack as you have currently built it. The GNU GPL 2 and later license under which I, and others, have released my/our products for your use simply does not permit it. IANAL but IMHO it is illegal for you to do so.

In simplest terms (although this is going to sound blunt): Any GPL 2 product can be redistributed - but only under the same GPL 2 or later license. To be released under GPL 2 any and all products which form part of the package must be GPL 2 or compatible license. Ergo no non-GPL2/GPL2-compatible products can be included.

I, and others, release under GPL 2 to protect my/our copyright, and to give you additional privileges such as copying, modifying and re-releasing. You need to respect those provisions, or your right to redistribution and use are automatically null and void per the terms of the license.

I cannot see, and anyway would not know, if every package included is GPL 2 or later, but as noted before I can see at least 1. I believe that you need to validate this for yourself, and remove each and every non-GPL 2 or later licensed product at a minimum before distribution. (But there are further packaging requirements of the license which you must also meet.)

So I think this means that if someone downloads a copy of "DF Mega Mod Pack" you'll need to convert dfaddons.com to run on something other than DF. That's why this is important.

As he downloaded something like 800 plus megs of DF coding I had zipped up for him...

Will do on that, thanks tim and if you do not mind, can you pm me a link to the 800 mb package and will archive it, at the df addon repository!

Also, like to invite you and nano and the rest of the team to know, you are all invited to dfaddons, as we could use more developers and coders for projects, that can be bid on by those who are interested, along with a few other things.

Looking forward to working with nano on what he has going, as df10 build demo is going online today at dfaddons, along with a few other things, as just updated the language files and posting up the first release of the Language pack, and theme pack, as mention is up as well!

Why would anyone download that mega-pack, who would need all of those, why wouldn't you just download the bits you want, all those modules would need to be installed separately anyway.

Lots of links on the site don't work and your forums are being spammed (you should turn off anonymous posting)

kendle, I agree with, the place for downloads is here and should be here, no doubt and as far as why anyone would want to download each and everyone module, one by one and then unzip it and hope the structure is correct and spend all that time in doing so, is a the question of how many clicks and time one saves with this and a other compiled packages, to make it a little easier on those, who do not want to spend time surfing around looking for things and like it all, like fast food and fast cars, need I say more.

Please feel free to discuss your role at dfaddons, anytime as we all know how much of a valuable asset you are and anything can do to help get you on board, let me know!

yea, those spammers, was actually board and responding to them at first and offered a warning about spamming and was ready, left the guest book on for fun, as love waiting for them to spend time spamming it and then just clean entries!

Kendle, in all seriousness, let us discuss a few things, as dfaddons is planning on offering a little more, like services and development funds for projects biddind, if you are intrested in maybe making a few $$$ there, as well as a paypal donation button for you, of course and all developers who would like one on dfaddons, as our goal is to help support everyone, not just the clients, as let us make DF a win win for us all and get it going, as joomla rocks and it was sad to see one of our df community members site turn that way, as I know we all got to make choices, and loosing a contributor to another cms for what ever reason is one that impacts us all who depend upon the contributors, like you and the others who support DF, so let's try and keep an open mind on everthing here.

Personally I think DF has bigger issues than the availability of add-on's, like basic design for instance. The biggest favour the DF Devs could do themselves is ask Eestlane to use reDesign3 as the standard theme and use it on this site. I'd suggest you do the same for dfaddons.com because at the moment it looks like a throwback to the bad old days when everyone used *Nuke.

And you need to answer layingback.

Will not go off topic with a df diagnosis in this thread, at this time, if you ever would like to discuss them with everyone else or in private, I would welcome it!


Kendle, moving the demo themes over to the dfbuild site and concentrate on a few other things that should help!
