Post subject: How to create "Subforums"

Where or how do I create a subforum, like this site.

I am using 9.0 and the cpgnuke theme.

Did I over look it? Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance for your help. Very Happy

That thread does not answer my question.

Its an old thread. And I see subforums on this site.

I am also using 9.0 not 8.XX

EDIT-- *** nevermind, Dj answered my question, the previous post still applies, even though its old.

Thanks Stephen

The sub-forums work if you know how to "tweak" your database of our next release.

It won't work in 8.2 and it won't work properly on themes using the old template system.

There's only a few settings in the database to tweak (in the 8.3 CVS that is):

- cms_bbforums: parent_id field must contain the forum_id of the owner
- cms_bbforums: forum_type of the forum that has sub-forums must be set to 1

- cms_bbforums: if you wanna "link" to somewhere the forum_type must be set to:
2) using getlink() for creating the link
3) a global url like myotherdomain.com
and you insert the "link" in the forum_link field

Very Happy

Meaning, its not available to us novices. If you do some "tweaking" as mentioned above.
Not a simple click of a button in the 9.0.
So its not available yet.

this is why i'm waiting for the stable build. all the tweaking you are doing now is going to cause you a headache when 1.0 is released.

you can use subforums in dragonfly (my site uses them extensively if you wish to see how they look).

1. you'll have to 'enable' them via phpmyadmin (or the link)

2. there are some known issues, as subforums has not yet been completed this is expected. One issue is a pageination type issue.

Ex: Forum index => subforum should be Forum index => Parent Forum => Subforum.

3. Another issue is that the parent forum description does not automatically show that there is a subforum (again if you wish you can view my site and see my work around for this).

4. Will subforums be finished at some point? DJ would be the most likely to know, since it was he who started work on them.

- cms_bbforums: forum_type of the forum that has sub-forums must be set to 1

That part still aplies and is basically all there is to it.

Lets see if I can do an example:

lets say you have forum A and you want to add subforum 1

go into phpmyadmin (or whatever you use) _bbforums table and find the forum_id of Forum A, then you take that # and put it into the parent_id field of subforum 1
Step two again in _bbforums table find the forum_type feild for Forum A and enter 1 (this makes it a parent forum, without a value of one, the forum cannot have subforums).

You're done.

i've setup a subforum on my live site.

only problem is, it shows 'no new posts' as text rather than as an image.

pitcher's themes are missing the XXXX_sub.gif images.

To do descriptions like I do, I used html:

Code::
