New Registrations
Admin Approval to sends an activation link, instead of "you have been approved..." I need to incorporate the activation email and admin approval email into ONE!!! If there can be an alteration such as,
Registration done,
User clicks Finish to finalize
Final screen "Admin will approve account and send you an activation link to verify the email address.
So then I would like to see if it is possible to approve them thru admin, send the user an email stating that the admin has approved their account, and the final step would be to activate their account by following the link!
Is this something that would be possible for someone to take a crack at it. Just for the pros I think...

It is set to yes, but because I have admin approval option set to yes as welll it cancels out the activation link!
Basically I want to send an admin approval that has an activation link!
so...I want to be able to view the account approve it, but not activate it and then send the activation which will be the final step!
So instead of admin approval finalizing the new member and inserting the data into nuke_users, I would like their activation link to be the final step.
Possible???
BTW: Good to have you back Kegobeer! Got tonnes of pseudo beer kegs to pass off! (in other words, I know I am gonna be a regular in these forums!)
Cheers

Actually I like that idea Seeker - anything that provides double opt-in these days is a good thing.
I also went down that path some time ago, but didn't do anything about it.

I have been looking into switching to Dragonfly for my gaming community but this is a feature that we use and is really a must have for us.
It only makes sense to have a person follow a link back to the site to finish the registration process regaurdless of whether or not an admin must approve. It also makes sense that if the users doesn't visit the site via the link after a set amount of days that user is deleted from the temp users table. Forcing them to reapply.

This really is a great idea.
We have been sending them a email just to verify if the email is legit then approving it in the admin.
It's really a pain to do this due to were not always in front of the computer to handle it.

Kreagon that is already how dragonfly and just about all cms's work these days. It's standard procedure. The idea of this topic is in building upon that concept.

I know this is Requests and Ideas, and I think it's a good request but I have a comment about workarounds in the meanwhile.
You could make a hidden group "Approved," and set Registration to email validation. Then when someone validates with their link, add them to the group (if you also know them or whatever criteria you have). Take all the module permissions and forum permissions that you have set to Registered Only, and change them to the Approved group only. Wouldn't that be easier than individually emailing people?

This is why I love Dragonfly. There are usually 2-3 correct answers for every question. Nice idea.

Actually Dragonfly doesn't work this way. I tested it last night. With Require Admin Approval and email activation turned on no link is sent for the user to confirm/finish the reg process.
As soon as the admin approves the user they are moved into the users table and the email simply says that the admin approved the account, not requiring email activation.
So either this is a bug or the fact that the admin approved the account trumps the email activation. With the later this should not be.

On our site we sort of do this now. However, one of the reasons for requiring admin approval is it keeps the boards closed to just anyone joining the forums. During our registration process the person has to tell us why they would like to join our clan. But once they are approved by an admin they still must finish activation by following the link. Otherwise they don't get access to the boards and if they don't follow the link in two weeks they must reapply because they are automatically removed from the system.
This saves the site admin from having to delete users from the users table because they were moved into the users table and never activated.

Ah, point taken. I never paid much attention to having users that don't do anything, so I forget other people do.
