Dragonfly CMS Thousand points of Dragonfly
I'd like to take a moment to announce the Thousand Points of Dragonfly campaign. Back in 1989, George Bush, Sr. was taking office for the first time. During his inaugural speech, he made this comment;

"I have spoken of a thousand points of light, of all the community organizations that are spread like stars throughout the Nation, doing good. We will work hand in hand, encouraging, sometimes leading, sometimes being led, rewarding. We will work on this in the White House, in the Cabinet agencies. I will go to the people and the programs that are the brighter points of light, and I will ask every member of my government to become involved. The old ideas are new again because they are not old, they are timeless: duty, sacrifice, commitment, and a patriotism that finds its expression in taking part and pitching in."

and finished with;

" And so, there is much to do; and tomorrow the work begins. I do not mistrust the future; I do not fear what is ahead. For our problems are large, but our heart is larger. Our challenges are great, but our will is greater. And if our flaws are endless, God's love is truly boundless. Some see leadership as high drama, and the sound of trumpets calling, and sometimes it is that. But I see history as a book with many pages, and each day we fill a page with acts of hopefulness and meaning. The new breeze blows, a page turns, the story unfolds. And so today a chapter begins, a small and stately story of unity, diversity, and generosity--shared, and written, together."

Those are wonderful words, as appropriate today as they were 18 years ago.

As I sat porting Topsites to Dragonfly, I thought about what people in the Dragonfly CMS Community needed and could use the most. That's one of the reasons that I wanted to port Topsites to Dragonfly. A Topsites list provides the one thing that every site needs and wants the most. External links to there website. Both in and out.

The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topsites gives a quick and through description on what a Topsite List and and how to use it.

So, how will this help us? First off, I'd like to catalog all the Dragonfly sites that exist on the net and keep it accurate a sites come and go. The only way to do this is to have a links page that someone maintains (Massive amounts of work) or get the community involved in maintaining it. And a Topsites list does just that. Every site that registers with the Topsite listing places a link on their website. They get a link out from the Topsite list. Then two things happen. Google sees the links and starts to raise your ranking based on the fact that the Topsite links back to your site. And two, the Topsite starts to rise based on the links to it. Everyone gets a boost, we all win and the users searching around the net get to have a constantly updated site that lists other Dragonfly sites and we get to have more targeted traffic.

In closing I would like to invite every administrator of a Dragonfly driven site to come over to to the Thousand Points of Dragonfly site and join up. Lets help each other help the community!
