I am trying to back up my db and re install it on an other server.After I get my back up installed I will upgrade tot he newest version.
But when I try to upload my db i get this error:

if you have ssh access try

mysql --local -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD DATABASE < FILE.sql

what is ssh? I have been download the data base from the admin, and then trying to re-upload via phpmywat

I can't connect with SSH. Is there any other way to get around this error?

how big is the database backup file?

it's only 18MB or when it is compressed it is less than 3.5

The issue you are having is that, probably, the old database used a different encoding then the new one.

If are not able to match the encoding, you could always try to let php exec() the above command.

If both of the above fails, then manually delete, from the sql file, what it thinks to be a duplicate entry.

Your host __does__ have ssh enabled, ask your host how to access it or read DJ Maze url.

If you do have a Linux box or you have unix tools into your windows, then:
cat backup.sql | ssh username@yourhost "umask 077; cat >> backup.sql; mysql --local -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD DATABASE < backup.sql"

seriously this seems complicated but its the easier, faster, secure and error free way ever possible.
