Archived ⇒ LightBox BBCode built into DF

I believe it would be a good move to put the Lightbox function as a BBCode to be used all over the website. There were a few attempts earlier this year @ myndworx and dfaddons to get this to work. And they succeeded in doing that. But the only issue was that it vanished from my site once I upgraded to the latest version. I seriously am no fan of playing around with the core as it could be very cumbersome at times. So can this be made a default feature and all the themes upgraded to this as well.

Or should I ask MikieMouse @ EHPDesigns to put it into his BBCode module?

MikieMouse is probably your best bet. But be aware that per his website the BBCode Module is on hold.

I hate playing devils advocate, but I'm very resistant to 'fluff' code being added to the core.

What basic functionality would improve by this code?

(BTW I know nothing about 'lightbox' or what it does.)

Where is the code viewable? I assume it's GPL/v2/v3 or the like?

OK maybe not the core but it could be added as a module. The End user (members on our sites)wants it and for them it doesn't matter if it is the core or a module or whatever.
