Archived ⇒ A 'traditional' forum community and Opensocial

I've been reading about opensocial and have recently joined a German social / busineess network called xing. This has led me to wonder whether such networks have anything to offer the traditional forum groups that we all have, particularly as Opensocial seems to have put this within reach of the OS community.

At the moment I don't know how you would do this, or what it would offer or anything more than a vague idea that there must be a future beyond the text based static forum / chat.

Therefore I'll stop there and throw this open for comment. "Community forum based groups wishing to develop should look towards networking applications". Discuss.

Thanks!
