Upgrade mysql error Reply to topic

While trying to upgrade a version 9.1.2 install of DF to v. 9.3.3.1, I ran across this error:
On /install.php
While executing query "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS cms_blocks_custom (
bid INT NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
mid INT NOT NULL DEFAULT '0',
side CHAR(1) NOT NULL DEFAULT 'l',
weight SMALLINT NOT NULL DEFAULT '1',
UNIQUE KEY bid (bid, mid, weight)
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=null"

the following error occured: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'null' at line 7

In: /home/user/public_html/folder/includes/classes/installer.php on line: 61

Any ideas on what is the problem? The server is using -
Apache 2
PHP Version 5.3.3
MySQL Version 5.1.55 (client: 5.1.55)

EDIT: I realized what I did wrong after some time had passed. I actually used the previous config file instead of letting DF build a new one. This fixed this issue. Sorry for this useless post.

Server specs (Server OS / Apache / MySQL / PHP / DragonflyCMS):
Devuan jessie / Apache 2.4x / MariaDB 10.x / PHP 5.6x / DF 9.4

This is a user error in your old config file, error that many user had when using: 'null' instead of null.
