Hi there i am moving my site to another host. How do i do this??

I installed a fresh install on new host and went to overwrite the files with my old site files but then it lost connection to database Sad

What file do i need to edit to put in new database details so that there won't be an error?

Thanx

This what I do when moving a site from one host to another, but it assumes you have phpMyAdmin or some other tool for manipulating databases :-

1. Download all files from your old host.

2. Export the database from the old host.

3. Import the old database to your new host.

4. Edit the table cms_config_custom to change the following fields :-

cfg_name = server
cfg_field = domain
cfg_value = the URL of your new site

cfg_name = cookie
cfg_field = domain
cfg_value = the URL of your new site

5. Edit /includes/config.php to change the database host / name / user / password to whatever they are on your new host.

6. Upload files to new host.

7. If not already empty delete everything in /cache apart from the .htaccess file
